Hello Svaha clients - I know many of you were affected by several of our servers going offline this past Sunday. The technical explanation is below, but the short version is there was a power outage because of an icestorm in Michigan (It's spring right?) where our servers are located and while we're supposed to have redundant power, that didn't work as planned and thus we were offline for a few hours.

In situations like this it is difficult to keep clients informed about what's happening, especially when we are affected by the outage as well. In this case we posted updates on our Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/SvahaLLC/ ) and our twitter account (https://twitter.com/svahacom) so if anything like this happens in the future (knock on wood) please check those places for updates.

If anyone is still experiencing any problems, or if you have any questions, please let us know.

For the record, we are very sorry our services let you down and have assurances from our datacenter this will not happen again. We pride ourselves on providing reliable services, and we have a great track record of solid support for our 22 years of hosting, but situations like these happen now and then. One thing we also pride ourselves on is personal support and I also feel I let you down during this recent outage since I was not able to call/e-mail many of you back. It happens (murphy's law) that this outage coincided with a vacation where I was mostly offline and that made it difficult to communicate. I will work hard on being more communicative and responsive in the future.

Best wishes

Outage explanation in more detail from our datacenter:

On April 15th at 10:40AM Eastern Time, there was a partial power outage affecting the circuit several of our servers were on.  The transfer switch responsible for switching to backup power got stuck between commercial and generator power sources resulting in neither supplying power.  The system batteries fully depleted at 11:00AM causing power loss.  Power was restored at 1:35PM.

The power loss was the result of an ice storm that knocked out power to much of the area.  If the transfer switch had not failed, power would have been maintained.
